Monster Hunter World Reaches 28.1 Million Copies Sold
By the end of February, players will finally get their hands on Monster Hunter Wilds after sampling its open beta earlier this month. Although anticipation for the sequel appears high, Wilds still has a long way to go to match the sales figures achieved by its predecessor, Monster Hunter World. In the last quarter alone, Monster Hunter World sold another 1 million units, with no signs of slowing down.
Monster Hunter World Maintains Strong Sales
As reported by Automaton, Capcom has released its financial results for the fiscal quarter ending in December 2024. According to the report, Monster Hunter World has now sold 28.1 million copies. Already Capcom’s best-selling game of all time, it has remained a consistently strong performer over the past year. Based on figures provided in Capcom’s March 2024 financial results, Monster Hunter World has been selling approximately 1 million copies every three months.
Monster Hunter World’s DLC expansion, Iceborne, also sold 900,000 units during the final months of 2024. These results may have benefited from holiday discounts on both Iceborne and the base game, as well as continued excitement surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds. Regardless of the reason, Monster Hunter has become one of Capcom’s most successful franchises, with 108 million units sold, trailing only Resident Evil at 167 million units.
Monster Hunter Wilds Launch and First Update
Capcom will almost certainly add significantly to Monster Hunter’s lifetime sales when Monster Hunter Wilds launches for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 28. Earlier this week, Capcom also offered an early look at the game’s first post-launch update, which will feature the return of Mizutsune, a Leviathan-class monster.
