Dragon Quest Celebrates 40 Years: Metallic Monsters Gallery Unveils New Gold Figures

By the sword of Erdrick! This year marks Dragon Quest's 40th anniversary, and Square Enix is celebrating the occasion with a special release in its highly regarded Metallic Monsters Gallery collection.

New Gold Figures Open for Pre-Order (Japan Exclusive)

Square Enix has introduced six new metallic gold figures, featuring beloved Dragon Quest characters—from the classic Slime to the intimidating True Dragonlord. Pre-orders are available now exclusively on Square Enix's Japanese online store, ahead of the official July 17 launch.

However, there is one major drawback: the Japanese store does not ship to the U.S.

U.S. Collectors: What Are Your Options?

If you're located in the U.S. and eager to grab these figures, you'll need to check with third-party sellers for details on pricing, international shipping, and import fees. Alternatively, if you're new to the Metallic Monsters collection, there are several easy ways to get started without importing.

An Expanding Collection with Growing Demand

The Metallic Monsters Gallery series—highlighting metallic-finish Dragon Quest character models—has steadily grown in recent years. A passionate global collector community eagerly awaits each new release, with some figures becoming increasingly rare and desirable.

Fortunately, Square Enix's official Amazon store offers a variety of entry-level and earlier editions, making it a great starting point for building your collection—and preparing to conquer the full Dragonlord's hoard.

Design & Lineup Features

The 40th Anniversary figures showcase a shimmering gold finish, reimagining familiar creatures—such as Slime, King Slime, Liquid Metal, Dragon, Dragonlord, and True Dragonlord—with a rich, brass-toned base accented by fine, detailed color highlights.

In addition to characters, the lineup includes limited-edition magical artifacts, like Erdrick's armor and iconic weapons.

Pricing Breakdown

  • Slime: starting at 2,530 yen (approximately $16)
  • True Dragonlord: priced up to 9,900 yen (approximately $63)

Both new collectors and longtime fans should keep Square Enix's official Amazon store bookmarked, as it offers a wide range of past Metallic Monsters Gallery releases. It's also the most likely platform to host the 40th Anniversary collection if it becomes available internationally.
