Sea of Thieves Brings Destiny 2 to the High Seas
After rumors and leaks suggested a potential collaboration, it is now official: Sea of Thieves is bringing the visual style of Destiny 2 to the high seas with today’s update. Players can outfit their ships and crews with stylish Lightbearer items and gear, including Ghost anchors and sails featuring the symbols of the Hunter, Warlock, or Titan classes. The collection also includes class-themed figureheads, wheels, and ship crests bearing Destiny insignias.
The trailer showcases the complete Lightbearer assortment, including a Drifter costume and a Whisper of the Worm ornament for the Eye of Reach. Players can visit the Pirate Emporium to gear up for battle. Eyes up, mateys.
Why Destiny Fits the Sea of Thieves Universe
“Even though it might not seem like an obvious choice, Destiny’s classes and co-operative play presented a ‘crew-like’ bond that we thought was a great fit, along with some striking iconography, vivid art style and a sense of being mythical in tone and scope,” Adam Park, Rare’s director of brand and licensing, told Xbox News.
After the initial deal was finalized, decisions about which elements would appear in the update fell to Andria Warren, director of creative operations at Rare. Warren oversaw development and described it as a deeply collaborative process.
“From the earliest concept sketches to finalizing designs that honored both universes, every step challenged us to think differently,” she said. “We explored how iconic Destiny elements could be reimagined through a Sea of Thieves lens, translating tone, visual language, and character into something that felt fresh but unmistakably faithful. It pushed our teams creatively in the best possible way, and the result is something we’re truly proud of!”
Lightbearer Collection Pricing
Lightbearer Big Bundle: 4,999 Ancient Coins, approximately $50, or $45 with Game Pass.
Weapons Bundle: 499 Ancient Coins. It includes four ornaments, including the Ace of Spades.
